Accident injures two near Darwin

DARWIN -- A two-vehicle accident Wednesday morning in Meeker County injured two men, including one who is in critical condition.

According to the Meeker County Sheriff's Office, vehicles driven by Michael Anthony Knudson, 28, of Mayer, and Eric Sven Stinson, 39, of Litchfield, collided around 7:53 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of County Road 14 and 195th Street near Darwin.

Knudson was transported to the Hutchinson Hospital and then flown to the St. Cloud Hospital, where he was reported in critical condition.

Stinson was transported to Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield with minor injuries.

According to authorities, Knudson was going west on 195th Street when the 2002 Mercury Sable he was driving collided with a 2009 Ford van registered to Mediacom of Waseca and driven by Stinson southbound on County Road 14.

The Meeker County Sheriff's Office is investigating this accident and the Minnesota State Patrol is assisting. Dassel Fire and Rescue and the Hutchinson Ambulance also responded.

Arrest

WILLMAR -- A 23-year-old Willmar man was arrested for driving while impaired around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of state Highway 23 and 15th Street. A citizen reported erratic driving by a vehicle.

Fire

WILLMAR -- The Willmar Fire Department was called around 3:25 p.m. Tuesday to Litchfield Avenue and Dolson Street Southeast to extinguish a vehicle on fire.

Kandiyohi County

- Lionel Lopez, 27, of Willmar, made his first appearance Tuesday on felony charges of domestic assault and terroristic threats.

Unconditional bail was set at $25,000. His next appearance is March 21.

According to the complaint, Willmar police were called around 4:15 a.m. Sunday to a home in southeast Willmar on a domestic incident. A woman had reported that Lopez was outside the home but had broken a window to get inside.

The officers arrived to hear Lopez yelling at a woman, who had barricaded herself and two of her four children into a bedroom. Lopez had pounded on the door and then broke the window to get inside. The officers pulled Lopez off the woman and arrested him.

The woman said he had threatened her and had hit her in the past.

The 911 dispatcher had heard Lopez threaten the woman's life.

He has two prior domestic assault convictions, in October 2006 and September 2010.

- Jerry Everett Pahl, 39, of Willmar, made his first appearance Tuesday on felony domestic assault.

Unconditional bail was set at $25,000 with conditional bail at $5,000. He next appears on March 21.

According to the complaint, Willmar police were called around 2:45 p.m. Sunday to the area of Rice Park on a report that a man was assaulting a woman there. Officers were then called to a home in southeast Willmar about a woman who had been assaulted.

The woman said that Pahl had gotten mad and argued with her about how she was putting away groceries and that she left so that he could calm down. He followed her outside and pushed her into a snowbank.

Pahl admitted to arguing over the groceries and said he did push her into the snow. He was arrested. He has prior convictions for domestic assault in 2002 and 2005 and fifth-degree assault in 2005.
