One to jail, one to detox after fight
WILLMAR -- A 28-year-old Willmar man was arrested for disorderly conduct and taken to the county jail and a 25-year-old Osco, Ill., man was taken to detox after police were called around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday to the Holiday Inn, 2100 E. Highway 12 about men fighting in the pool area. Alcohol was a factor in the incident.
- Dakotah William Wayne Johnson, 18, of Willmar, made his first appearance Wednesday on two felony charges of check forgery and theft for his role in allegedly stealing checks and forging them at a local bank.
He was released on his personal recognizance. His next appearance is April 5.
Johnson is the second person charged in the case. Cody Alan Kirgiss, 20, of Willmar, made his first appearance last week on a felony charge of check forgery. His next appearance is May 4.
According to the complaint, the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office received a complaint on July 25 that a Target gift card had been stolen. The owner suspected Kirgiss had taken it.
On Aug. 4, another person reported that two checks had been forged on their checking account, for $750 and for $450. One had been written to Kirgiss and the other to a woman.
Kirgiss was interviewed at the Renville County Jail and admitted to taking the gift card, but denied forging the checks. He said a Johnson was possibly involved.
Video surveillance footage allegedly showed the woman cashing a check and then Kirgiss, as a passenger in the vehicle driven by Johnson, passing a check.
