Police investigate pickup theft, damage to light pole and trees
WILLMAR -- Willmar police are investigating the overnight theft of a pickup and a crash that involved the pickup striking a light pole and two trees along 19th Avenue Southwest.
Sgt. Jim Felt said officers were dispatched around 5:17 a.m. Tuesday to the area of 19th Avenue and 22nd Street Southwest after the department was told a pickup truck had hit a tree.
Officers found a 2001 Ford Ranger had been eastbound on 19th Avenue, went off the road and struck a light pole and two trees. The investigation revealed that the pickup had been stolen from the 1200 block of 11th Street Southwest during the night.
Officers found the steering wheel had been secured and the accelerator propped to proceed without a driver along 19th Avenue. The vehicle stopped on the boulevard after it hit the light pole and trees and was damaged to the point that it could not continue.
HAWICK -- Two kayaks were stolen from a rural Hawick residence, according to a report to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office. The kayaks were stolen sometime this winter.
