District Court, Kandiyohi County
- Sonia Faith Jimenez, 17, of Willmar, was sentenced Monday to six months of probation and 40 hours of community service on a felony charge of theft for taking a number of electronic items from a rural Willmar residence.
As part of a plea agreement, another felony charge, for burglary, was dismissed. She received a stay of adjudication on her sentence.
The charges were filed after a Kandiyohi County Sheriff's deputy was called on Nov. 5 to a burglary along the 6600 block of Highway 71 Northeast. A man reported electronic items, including a laptop, gaming consoles, controllers, games and other items were missing. The value of the items was $3,740.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage from a St. Cloud pawn shop and identified Jimenez as one of four people who pawned several items from the burglary on Nov. 11. Two others who were involved informed officers that they had either allowed Jimenez to use their ID to pawn items or that Jimenez had told them a friend wanted her to pawn the items.
One of the individuals had gone with Jimenez after the burglary to return some of the items to the man. During an interview with investigators, Jimenez admitted to taking the items, asking the others to help her pawn it and that she returned some of the items to their rightful owner on Nov. 15.
