District Court, Kandiyohi County
Emilio Ozornia, 24, of Willmar, was sentenced Thursday to a year and a day in prison, which was stayed, three years of probation and 210 days in jail on a felony charge of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle.
He was given credit for 75 days already served and ordered to pay a $50 fine.
The charge, along with misdemeanor charges of driving after revocation and receiving stolen property, were filed after a Willmar police officer on patrol Jan. 11 observed a vehicle along 11th Street Southwest that he knew was involved in a hit-and-run accident recently. The officer saw the vehicle turn around in a parking lot and recognized the driver as Ozornia. The officer pursued the vehicle, at speeds reaching up to 50 mph, on the city streets. The vehicle stopped along 16th Street Southwest, where Ozornia and a passenger were arrested. A vehicle search revealed property that was confirmed to be stolen from a nearby apartment. Officers went to the residence, found it had been entered by kicking in the door and saw that it was ransacked. The value of the missing items was estimated at $200.
