Trucks burned at Hillcrest Truck Stop, fire chief says call with information

NEW LONDON -- The State Fire Marshal has determined that a fire that damaged two trucks parked at Hillcrest Truck Stop Monday evening west of New London was arson.

Sig Holme, New London fire department chief, is asking anyone with information about the fire to call the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's office at 320-235-1260.

Crews arrived to find one truck fully engulfed in fire and another with a fire burning inside the cab, Holme said. The fire was reported around 11:20 p.m. Monday at the truck stop, 16451 Highway 71 N.E.

Watkins man in critical condition at HCMC; hurt in crash near Litchfield

LITCHFIELD -- A 48-year-old Watkins man is in critical condition at Hennepin County Medical Center after he was injured in a motorcycle accident around 4 p.m. Monday northwest of Litchfield.

According to information from the Meeker County Sheriff's office and the Minnesota State Patrol, Jesse Deheer was driving a 2004 Kawasaki motorcycle and struck from behind a 1998 Mazda driven by Jordan Oslund, 19, of Litchfield. Oslund was westbound on State Highway 24 and was making a left turn onto County Road 42. Deheer was also westbound on Highway 24.

Deheer was first taken by ambulance to Meeker Memorial Hospital and then sent on to Hennepin County Medical Center. He was not wearing a helmet. Oslund was not injured.

The crash is under investigation by the State Patrol.

Also responding were the Litchfield police, fire and rescue departments and Gold Cross Ambulance.

Woman arrested after hit and run crash

WILLMAR -- A 37-year-old woman was arrested on charges of driving while impaired and leaving the scene of a crash around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday at Sunray Express, 3001 First Ave. N.W. The woman was arrested at another location after police notified that a person driving a van had struck a Schwan's truck parked at the convenience store.

Theft

WILLMAR -- The theft of a phone was reported around 3 p.m. Monday along the 2900 block of First Street South.

LAKE LILLIAN -- The theft of a canoe was reported around 1:30 p.m. Monday along the 2300 block of 123rd Avenue Southeast.

LAKE LILLIAN -- The theft of 25 bales of hay, along Highway 7 between mile markers 111 and 113 was reported around 3 p.m. Monday.

RAYMOND -- The theft of items from a boat was reported around 5:50 a.m. Tuesday along Menage Avenue.

Kandiyohi County

n Pedro Miguel Leon, 43, of Morris and formerly of Columbus, Neb., made his first appearance Tuesday on two felony charges of driving while impaired.

Unconditional bail was set at $20,000. His next appearance is July 30.

According to the complaint, a Kandiyohi County Sheriff's deputy stopped a vehicle that was speeding around 6:40 a.m. Sunday along Highway 12 near Pennock. The minivan was going 72 mph in a 45-mph zone. The driver, Leon, showed signs of alcohol consumption, failed a field sobriety test and blew an 0.232 blood-alcohol content on a preliminary breath test. He was arrested and a breath test at the Law Enforcement Center showed a 0.20 BAC. The legal limit for driving is 0.08.

He has three prior convictions for driving while impaired, in September 2009, October 2009 and December 2011, all in Nebraska.
