Man arrested after high-speed chase in Willmar
WILLMAR -- A high-speed chase on a Willmar city street Saturday night resulted in the arrest of a 38-year-old man.
The Willmar man faces charges of third-degree driving while impaired, fleeing a police office in a motor vehicle, reckless driving and driving after revocation, according to a news release from the Willmar Police Department.
The pursuit began around 11:28 p.m. Saturday when officers saw a car traveling north at high speeds on Lakeland Drive. The incident complaint report filed with the department stated the vehicle was traveling more than 100 mph.
The driver refused to stop.
When the vehicle turned left on 14th Avenue Northeast, the driver lost control and struck a tree. He then fled on foot.
Officers from the Willmar Police Department, the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Department and the Minnesota State Patrol searched the area and located the suspect.
Report of kidnapping being investigated
WILLMAR -- When Willmar police first took a call at noon Saturday, it was feared that a 9-year-old boy had been snatched from his bike and kidnapped.
The initial call said the special needs boy had been riding his bike when a woman jumped out of a car and grabbed the child.
The boy did return home and further investigation revealed a complicated dispute with extended family and unanswered questions about whether the boy was temporarily taken or not. The parents of the child have indicated they want to press charges against the woman they say grabbed their son. The woman denies doing anything, according to Willmar police.
The case is being forwarded to the city attorney for review.
