Former Bemidji police chief injured on bicycle tour north of Paynesville
PAYNESVILLE — A former Bemidjit police chief riding in the Bicycle Around Minnesota tour was injured when he was hit by a car Friday morning north of Paynesville.
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office said the accident happened at 9:12 a.m. when a motorist allegedly failed to stop at the intersection of County Road 16 and 293rd Avenue, about two miles north of Paynesville.
The bike rider, 55-year-old Gerald Johnson of Bemidji, received medical treatment at the scene and was then airlifted to the St. Cloud Hospital by Life Link, the Sheriff’s Office said. Johnson was on his second day of the Bicycle Around Minnesota tour, biking from Albany to Spicer.
The Sheriff’s Office identified the driver of the car as Josie Magnan, 22, of Grove City. She was treated at the scene.
Along with the Sheriff’s Office and Life Link, the Paynesville Ambulance and Paynesville Fire and Rescue responded to the scene.
LITCHFIELD — A motorcycle passenger was injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday morning in Grove City.
The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office said Corrine Holmen, 55, of Comfrey, was taken by Gold Cross Ambulance to Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield.
She was a passenger on a Honda motorcycle operated by Norman Holmen, 55, also of Comfrey. The Sheriff’s Office identified the other driver as a 16-year-old from Lake Lillian, who was behind the wheel of a 1994 Buick Regal.
The crash happened at 11:35 a.m. at the intersection of Third Street North and Atlantic Avenue in Grove City. Along with the Sheriff’s Office and Gold Cross Ambulance, Grove City Fire and Rescue and the Minnesota State Patrol were at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the State Patrol.
SPICER — A one-vehicle rollover occurred around noon Thursday at County Road 9 and 90th Avenue Northeast. An individual was cited for failure to yield the right of way.
ATWATER — A man reported that his vehicle was hit in a church parking lot on the 300 block of Main Street South. The incident was reported at 1:53 p.m. Thursday.
ATWATER — A van and a boat on a trailer were reported to be on fire on the 6900 block of County Road 4 Northeast around 4:40 p.m. Thursday.
WILLMAR — An individual reported damage to a vehicle around 1:30 p.m. Thursday along the 1400 block of Dana Drive Southeast. The car was reportedly damaged with orange paint on both rims on the rear and exhaust. According to the incident report, the damage occurred Sunday night.
WILLMAR — A man reported that someone had been messing with his vehicle. The vehicle had stopped working and was in the parking lot at the junior high school. The individual said he would move the car.
The man also requested extra patrol in an alleyway.
The incident was reported at 6:30 p.m. Thursday on the 400 block of Litchfield Avenue Southeast.
WILLMAR — A Stihl backpack-style leaf blower and weed trimmer were reported stolen at 6:30 p.m. Thursday on the 200 block of 28th Street Southwest.
WILLMAR — A man reported that his bike had been stolen from his girlfriend’s residence on the 300 block of 10th Street Northwest between 4 and 7 p.m. Thursday.
The bike is a black BMX Hyper Bike valued at $120. It has two pegs on both the front and rear wheels and two stickers on the top frame rail that have been torn off. It also has one sticker on the bottom rail that says “caution do not eat contains lead.”
WILLMAR — Two individuals were cited for shoplifting and liability crimes around 10 p.m. Thursday on the 700 block of 19th Avenue Southeast. Both individuals were released from the scene.
