ATWATER -- An ATV driver said his vehicle went through the ice Friday night on Lake Elizabeth, south of Atwater. The driver told the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office the ice was 6 inches thick and that he had traveled over the same area before without any problems.

The driver also said that the access had open water between the shore and the ice and that he had to drive along the shoreline to find a spot to get on the ice, but the four-wheeler went through approximately 400 yards out from the access.

Sgt. Matthew Akerson of the Sheriff's Office reminds people that ice conditions are not safe and are changing.
