n Randy Charles Wyman, 47, of Atwater, was arraigned Monday on a felony charge of domestic assault for allegedly choking a family member and a gross misdemeanor charge for preventing another family member from calling for law enforcement.
Unconditional bail was set at $30,000. Conditional bail was allowed for $2,000 cash only. He was ordered to not use or possess firearms or dangerous weapons. His next appearance is Dec. 1.
According to the complaint, a Kandiyohi County Sheriff's deputy was called around 5:50 p.m. Saturday to a rural home for a domestic incident. A 14-year-old boy said he was horsing around and wrestling with his 12-year-old brother when Wyman entered the room, grabbed hold of him, put him in a choke hold, pinned him down and struck him in the head with his fist. The boy escaped out a window and went to neighbors to call for authorities.
A woman there reported that she saw Wyman on top of the boy and went to call for the law, but that Wyman had unplugged the phone from the wall and hid the cord.
The other youth confirmed the boy's story and said that he saw Wyman unplug the phone.
Wyman was arrested. A review of his criminal history revealed a previous conviction in September 2005 for a violation of an order for protection in Wright County and another conviction in December 2006 in Stearns County.
