Renville County joins online payment system for court fines

OLIVIA -- Starting Tuesday, recipients of payable citations due to district court in Renville County can pay their fines via an automated phone system or online using a credit card 24 hours a day, seven days a week. According to a news release from Renville County Court, the service is available only for citations that do not require a court appearance.

Other courts currently offering the phone and Web payment service in the 8th Judicial District include those in Chippewa, Lac qui Parle, Kandiyohi, Meeker, Swift and Yellow Medicine counties.

Payments can be made by calling 651-281-3219 in the Twin Cities metropolitan area, or toll-free at 1-800-657-3611. Payment can also be made through the Judicial Branch Web site www.mncourts.gov.

A convenience fee will be charged for each payment made. Payments may still be made at the courthouse or by mail. Payments by mail can be mailed to the Minnesota Court Payment Center, P. O. Box 898, Willmar, MN 56201.

The service is being rolled out statewide over a two-year period as part of a judicial branch effort to reduce costs.
