Renville County, Minn., corn/soy meeting set for Thursday
OLIVIA — The University of Minnesota Extension will provide agronomy updates for corn and soybean production to area farmers and ag professionals Thursday at Max’s Grill located on U.S. Highway 212 in Olivia.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. There will be a $10 registration fee per person at the door to cover the meeting proceedings, refreshments and the noon meal.
The Renville County Corn and Soybean Growers Association will have its annual meeting at 11:45 a.m. to noon followed by buffet lunch for all people attending. Current members of the Renville County Corn and Soybean Growers Association will not be charged the $10 registration fee. Membership registration will be available at the door.
Topics of discussion include a corn insect and rootworm resistance management update by Ken Ostlie, Extension entomologist; a review of high-yield studies for soybeans by Nick Weidenbenner, U of M agronomy; 2013 corn and soybean crop budgets and marketing by Zach Rada, Ridgewater College farm business management instructor; and a weed control update by crops Extension educator Dave Nicolai.
