ESPN.com and CBSSports.com are reporting that Carlson has agreed to a contract.

Carlson is set to visit the Minnesota Vikings later today, according to TheSidelineView.com, possibly pairing incumbent starter Kyle Rudolph with a fellow Notre Dame standout.

The Vikings value two-tight-end sets, and despite missing 2011 with a shoulder injury, Carlson produced back-to-back 50-catch seasons in 2008-09.

The Vikings appear to be one of several teams in the mix for Carlson, who was a second-round pick out of Notre Dame in 2008 and is a native of Litchfield.

NFL free agency began Tuesday, and the Vikings were relatively quiet on the first day.
