Republicans plead for temporary budget as shutdown deadline looms

Email

PAUL -- Minnesota legislative leaders bought themselves some budget negotiating time today by summoning their members to the Capitol, but by evening Republicans were pleading with the governor to call them back into session to pass a temporary budget as off-and-on talks appeared to fall short of a deal.

Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton says he will not call lawmakers back into special session until he and Republicans in charge of the Legislature reach a total budget deal.
