WILLMAR -- Motorists will encounter delays and a brief detour when a resurfacing project begins Monday on U.S. Highway 12 from Sixth Street East to 24th Street East in Willmar.
Flagging operations will direct traffic through the work zone.
A brief detour will be in effect from May 11 through May 14 as loop detectors for the signal system are installed at the junction of Highway 12 and Lakeland Drive.
Highway 12 traffic will be detoured to Litchfield Avenue, then back to Highway 12. Traffic on Lakeland Drive will be detoured west on Becker Avenue, north on 13th Street to Litchfield Avenue, to Lakeland Drive.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation expects the contractor will complete the project by May 23, weather permitting.
The project will provide a smoother ride for motorists, said MnDOT.
Motorists are reminded to drive with extreme caution through the work zones and watch for workers and equipment.
