Reward increased in search for missing Leader man

Peter Achermann, 82, of rural Staples, has been missing July 24. His car was found on July 25, but the search effort has not found any further clues since. Gov. Pawlenty ordered the Minnesota National Guard Friday to assist in the search.

The reward in the ongoing search for an 82-year-old Leader man has been raised in hopes new tips will be received regarding his whereabouts.

According to a press release from the Cass County Sheriff's Office:

Peter Acherman, who walks with a cane, was last seen July 24, 2009, in the Staples-Motley area. His vehicle was located the next day on a minimum maintenance road in Becker Township in Cass County.

Acherman lives on a farm in Moose Lake Township, three miles north of Leader in southern Cass County. Leader is located about 30 miles northwest of Brainerd.

A reward is offered up to $20,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible for his disappearance, if that disappearance is determined to be the result of foul play.

The reward will remain in effect until Sept. 15.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Cass County Sheriff's Office at 1-800-450-2677.
