WILLMAR -- When a family heirloom is stolen in a burglary, it's not just the dollar value of what's stolen that hurts, but the irreplaceable sentimental value of the heirloom.

That is the situation a homeowner in Willmar is facing, after the loss of his grandparent's guns in a home burglary, according to Marilee Dorn, crime prevention/community policing coordinator for the Willmar Police Department.

It's been four months with no new leads, she said in a press release.

Willmar Area Crime Stoppers is facilitating a cash reward of up to $1,000 offered by the homeowners for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the burglar(s), or for information which leads to the return of the firearms which were stolen.

The incident happened the first week of March on East Becker Avenue when a neighbor noticed a home near the intersection of 14th Street Southeast had been broken into while the residents were gone.

The burglar(s) broke in a bedroom window to enter the home. While investigating, police found that the gun case in the home had been cleared out, and other items were also missing --antique coins, jewelry, and a handmade quilt.

Some of the distinctive items for which the reward stands are as follows:

- A Civil War-era .44 caliber black powder revolver, model REB44, serial number 06W16013,

- A 1905 lever-action .50 caliber rifle with octagon barrel,

- An H&K brand .22-caliber revolver, model 676, serial number J67602, with a 5½-inch barrel,

- A set of 1964 to 2008 JFK half dollars in a wood and glass display box.

Additional firearms stolen include a Sears 12-gauge pump-action shotgun, a Marlin .22-caliber rifle, two .45 caliber western-replica handguns, a silver-and-pearl Derringer replica, and seven gun locks.

A jewelry box was also stolen, containing 18 pairs of earrings, a gold stick pin with the initial "E" and a two-strand pearl necklace.

The quilt and pillowcases were likely used to carry away the stolen property.

Police are hoping someone may have seen the burglary happen in late February or the first days of March. It is also likely that the stolen property is in possession of individuals around Willmar, said Dorn.

If you know anything about this burglary or where the stolen items are, you are asked to contact Willmar Area Crime Stoppers with your information and give as much detail as possible when calling or texting.

Crime Stoppers guarantees anonymity and tipsters do not have to give their name and can instead provide a code number when leaving information so the reward goes to the proper individual.

There is no caller ID on the tip phone line, said Dorn.

Texted tips go through a scrubber so only the tip information is forwarded to the agency, with no phone information attached.

Call the Willmar Area Crime Stoppers tip line at 320-235-3640, or text tips to the number 274637 (CRIMES on a traditional key pad), starting your tip with the key word, WILLSTOPCRIME.

Information may also be given to Willmar Police Department directly at (320)235-2244.
