Reward offered in Meeker County mailbox bottle bomb case
LITCHFIELD -- The MN International Association of Arson Investigators is offering a reward up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for a homemade plastic bottle bomb that exploded in a mailbox north of Dassel.
According to Meeker County Sheriff Jeff Norlin, the bomb, often referred to as a "MacGyver Bomb," exploded inside a mailbox on June 16 in the Lake Arvilla/Big Swan Lake area.
This type of homemade bomb consists of various chemicals placed inside an enclosed container. The chemicals react with each other, releasing gases and expand to the point of rupturing the enclosed container. There is always the danger to homeowners that the container may fail to rupture, but remain under pressure and explode at any time.
Tips can be called in to the Arson Tip hotline, 1-800-723-2020.
