Richard Brower, 79 of Terrace, died Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the Belgrade Nursing Home. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday June 19, 2014 at the Brooten Community Church in Brooten. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. www.hafh.org
Richard Brower was born on July 19, 1934 in Crookston, the son of John and Johanna (Hoekstra) Brower. He grew up in the Brooten area where he attended country grade school and the Brooten School. After his schooling he entered the US Army where he served his country during the Korean War stationed in Guam. On June 18, 1957, Richard was united in marriage to Katheleen VerSteeg in Hancock. To this union two sons and five daughters were born. They made their home near Belgrade where they farmed. In 1967 they moved to Terrace and he worked as a truck driver for the Farmers Elevator and Vern Schroeder Trucking until his retirement in 2008. Richard and Katheleen were able to share in 57 years of marriage.
Richard was a member of the Brooten Community Church where he served as a deacon, treasurer of the Benevolent fund and participated in bible study. He enjoyed attending auction sales, farming and roller skating in his youth.
He is survived by his children, Ricky (Barb) Brower of Terrace, Karen (Brian) Borgerding of Belgrade, Linda and (Randy) Tensen of Dawson, Cheryl (Chad) Wiener of Elrosa, Debra Wallenta of Eagan, Diane (Duane) DeGonda of Redwood Falls and Donovan (Pam) Brower of Melrose; 21 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings Thelma (William) Meyer of Willmar and Calvin Brower of Brooten.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
