Richard D. Fredeen Oct. 25, 1918 - Sept. 25, 2008
NEW LONDON -- Richard Daniel Fredeen, 89, of New London died Thursday at GlenOaks Care Center in New London.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Evangelical Covenant Church in New London. Burial will be in the Roosevelt Memorial Park in Gardena, Calif.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer.
He was born Oct. 25, 1918, in Darwin to Arthur and Mildred (Johnson) Fredeen. He grew up in the Darwin, Litchfield and Paynesville areas and attended country schools.
He married Doris Kain on June 20, 1942, in Dassel. They lived in Grove City and Spicer. He worked at Green Lake Trailer Works in Spicer with his father. He served in the U.S. Navy as a machinist's mate third class during World War II. He moved to California in 1952 and worked as a machinist and engineer.
He married Sheila Kitchens on Sept. 10, 1965 and they made their home in Gardena, Calif. He retired in 1999 and moved to Willmar in 2003. He has resided at GlenOaks Care Center since 2006.
He was a member of the American Legion and Gardena Valley Rod & Gun Club.
He is survived by his children: Lola Sterling of New Castle, Colo., David Fredeen of Spicer, John (and Suzie) Kitchens of Camarillo, Calif., Leslie Fredeen of New Castle, Colo., and Paul (and Lena) Kitchens of Texas; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; siblings: Clarence Fredeen of New London, Arlene Nelson of Hawick and Shirley (and Skip) Kinsport of Laporte.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Sheila in 1999; two daughters: Louise Harris and Linda Slone; and a brother.
