RENVILLE -- Richard Frank Chan, 76, of Renville, died Thursday at his home.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Renville. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Renville and for one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
He was born March 5, 1932, in Bechyn to Frank E. and Mary M. (Wohnoutka) Chan. He grew up on the farm south of Renville and graduated from Renville High School in 1951. He served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955.
He married Darlene Beckler on Aug. 24, 1957, in Bird Island. He farmed with his brother Clarence until retiring in 1991. He then worked with Dirks-Blem Funeral Home, assisting with funerals for many years.
He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and served on the parish council, a member of the Danube American Legion, and was active with Emmett Township's government for 21 years.
He is survived by his wife; his children: David Chan (and Janet Ziemer) of Alexandria, Kathleen (and Ken) Larus of Hermosa, S.D., Douglas (and Anna) Chan of Willmar; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his sister: Lorraine Keefhaver of Holt, Mo.
He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
