WILLMAR - Richard A. "Rick" Ferguson, age 63 of Willmar died on Saturday, January 19, 2012 at University of Minnesota Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis. Funeral service will be 11:00 am on Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Cloverleaf Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7pm on Tuesday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Richard Allan Ferguson was born on March 20, 1949 in Willmar, the son of Carlton and Jeanette (Wright) Ferguson. He grew up in Willmar where he graduated from Willmar High School in the class of 1967. He entered the United States Navy in March of 1968 where he served on the USS Constellation during Vietnam. Rick received an Honorable Discharge in May of 1972. He returned to Willmar where he was united in marriage to Gloria Forcier on May 5, 1973 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. The couple had one child and lived in Willmar. Rick was employed in the auto body division of Nelson International for 40 years where he would become the manager.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Willmar where he served as Trustee. He also was a member of the Willmar Eagles Club, Cooties, and American Legion Post #167, V.F.W. #1639 where he served as Past Commander.
Rick enjoyed being outdoors: fishing, hunting and camping. He also enjoyed sports, especially when it came to attending the Grandchildrens activities. He always made sure that he was there to watch the kids participate and was always enthusiastic during their events. His family remembers him as Mr. Fix It, as Rick enjoyed fixing and working on projects. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Rick is survived by his wife Gloria of Willmar; daughter Christine Riemersma (and Chris Leibel) of Willmar; grandchildren: Isaiah and Ivy; mother, Jeanette Hallbom of Mesa, AZ; sisters; Carol (and Paul) Aasen of New London; Diana Friehl of Willmar; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Rick was preceded in death by his father and brother-in-law Roy Friehl.
