CLONTARF -- Richard Louis Chevalier, 90, of Murdock, formerly of Clontarf, died Tuesday at Homestead Place in Murdock.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson. Burial will be in St. Malachy Cemetery in Clontarf.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Friday at the church. Arrangements are with the Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson.
He was born May 31, 1918, in Willmar to Louis and Ervila (Goulet) Chevalier. He grew up on a farm in Pope County and attended country school through the eighth grade. At age 18, he went to work in the Conservation Corps during World War II.
He married Genevieve Bouta on May 23, 1946, in Clontarf. He farmed his entire life in Hoff Township in Pope County with his brother Vernon. He retired in 1980. They moved into Benson in 1999 and were living at Homestead Place in Murdock. He was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church in Clontarf and the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife; three children: Carol (and Jerry) VerSteeg of Hancock, Coleen Johnson of Cosmos, and Marilyn Thole (and special friend Lowell Marcus) of Willmar; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; siblings: Vernon (and Donna) Chevalier of Benson and Ardella Geyer of Rochester.
He was preceded in death by sons-in-law: Dale Emmert and Daniel Thole; a great-granddaughter; one sister, and one brother.
