Ridgewater College to host multicultural events
WILLMAR — Ridgewater College will host a series of events during Multicultural Month in February.
In Willmar, the events will take place on each Thursday in the month.
It will begin with interactive Global Feasts for students only from 6 to 8 p.m. this Thursday in the school cafeteria. The events are intended to help students gain perspective on how populations around the world eat.
Three events will be open to the public.
On Feb. 14, from 11 to 11:50 a.m. in the theater, “My Somalia, A Review of What Was Left Behind,” will be presented. The program explores the hardships of people from East Africa after their move to Minnesota.
The film “Minnesota Nice” will be shown at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m. Feb. 21 in the conference center. The 45-minute film tells stories of real Minnesota students who have experienced bullying and have stepped forward to share their experiences. Discussion afterward will include the film’s producer Alex Fischer.
From 11:00 to 11:50 a.m. on Feb. 28 in the cafeteria, Shannan Paul, professional speaker and comedian, will address cultural sensitivity by using personal anecdotes and real situations to teach the audience how to avoid walking blindly into awkward situations.
