Mesabi Range Overview

The Norsemen opened with a 26-14 win against Fergus Falls at Husky Stadium last week. Mesabi won the North Division last year with a 4-0 record and finished 7-3 overall, losing in the state semifinal round. Thirteen starters return, including three wide receivers. Quarterback Joe Frazier completed only three passes but one went for 64 yards and a touchdown. Says Ridgewater coach Rob Baumgarn: "Mesabi is athletic and quick and they come at you with a lot of different formations. We need to come out with more fire. We're at home for the first time; this is a good time to rebound."

Ridgewater Overview

Sophomore Devontay Stevens rushed for 121 yards at St. Cloud last week, but Ridgewater's offense limped along under the weight of four interceptions and two lost fumbles and ended up falling 13-7 in OT to Itasca. Led by linebacker Jonathan Cross with 17 tackles, the defense held Itasca to 160 yards. The Warriors are banged up after Week 1 and will tap in to their ample depth chart. Stevens (hip) and WR Elijah Lee (rib) are questionable. Starting cornerback Telvince Way (knee) and quarterback Trevor Nystrom (shoulder) are expected to play. Sophomore starting wide receiver Keanta Johnson has been suspended pending investigation of an incident in which the police were called, according to Baumgarn.
