Ridgewater instructor named Fulbright Scholar
WILLMAR - Dr. Kathy Steffen, an English instructor at Ridgewater College's Hutchinson campus, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to teach for the 2013-14 academic year.
She will teach at the Pereyaslav-Khmelnsytsky Hryhoriy Skovoroda State Pedagogical University in the city of Pereiaslav-Khmelnsytsky, Ukraine, according to the United States Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.
According to a news release, Steffen plans to teach a course designed to share current trends in evaluation and assessment of teacher candidates and teacher-preparation programs and a course on preparing every teacher across the curriculum to be a literacy teacher. She will then teach a creative writing course in Costa Rica early next year.
Steffen is one of approximately 1,100 faculty and professionals who will travel abroad through the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program in 2013-2014. Sam Nelson, a history instructor on the college's Willmar campus, spent the last year in Russia as a Fulbright Scholar.
