Ridgewater Lady Warriors fall to Fergus

WILLMAR -- A lousy afternoon shooting from the field and the line resulted in Ridgewater College losing 72-62 to Fergus Falls in MCAC South Division women's basketball on Saturday.

The Lady Warriors' shot 35 percent from both the field and the foul line.

The Spartans outscored the Lady Warriors 25-8 at the free-throw line.

The Lady Warriors led 20-16 but couldn't buy a basket after that. The Spartans went on a 19-2 run for a 37-26 lead by the break.

Ridgewater fell back by as much as 15 points, but fought back to 66-60. With 1:00 left, Patina Queenan's three-pointer rimmed out to teammate Alison Mason whose put-back bounced out.

Deveny Moore, who led the Spartans with 21 points, sank two free throws at the other end to ice the win.

It was the 500th win in 32 seasons at Fergus Falls for coach Ann Williams.

Queenan finished with 20 points, Tara Thielke added 14 and seven assists while Chelsea Voorhees had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
