WILLMAR -- Ridgewater's pressure was consistent and constant as the Lady Warriors won their first MCAC Southern Division women's basketball game of the season 80-63 over Central Lakes Wednesday.

Ridgewater (1-1, 7-6) employed a non-trapping zone press to put the Central Lakes players off balance.

"We rattled them hard and it took them out of what they wanted to do," said Ridgewater coach Carrie Ogdahl.

Offensively, Kelsey Guetter had her best low-post game of the year, scoring 24 points on 11-of-18 shooting and two free throws. Hannah Smith turned in 23 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, and Whitley Strei notched 21 points, including all three of Ridgewater's three-point baskets.

The Lady Warriors defense held the Raiders (0-3, 7-10) to 38 percent (26 of 68) from the floor and kept Central Lakes from getting a lot of second-chance opportunities with 24 defense rebounds.

"Our defensive effort was good," Ogdahl said.

Brianna Jacobson pulled down six rebounds, as did Alii Holt, whom Ogdahl singled out for her defensive effort.

"Alii Holt gave it her all," she said. "She kept on playing on defense even without getting offensive stats."

Stephanie Neugebauer scored 19 point to lead the Raiders. Nikki Pearson added 13 points.
