Ridgewater men fall to NDSCS

WILLMAR -- North Dakota State College of Science turned on the afterburners to start the second half and scorched Ridgewater 89-56 in men's basketball at the college on Wednesday.

"They just broke us down," said coach Bob Knutson. "They are very talented. Their coach figures they have six kids who could go (NCAA) Division I."

NDSCS's 12-0 start (now 13-0) has moved it up from the 30th spot in NJCAA Division I to No. 12.

A big reason for the Wildcats' sure start is four transfers from Kilgore (Texas) JC, who came north with their coach Scott Schumacher when he took the head job at the Wahpeton college this year.

Ridgewater lost 108-69 on Nov. 18 to the Wildcats, who led 50-19 at half.

This time the lead was 41-31 at the break. The Warriors were as close as 31-27 at one point, but couldn't stop 6-5 Ridge McKeither -- one of those Kilgore transfers -- who had 14 points by intermission.

Derek Eisenchenck and Chad Mulder were a combined 6-for-9 shooting to keep the Warriors in the game.

No one reached double figures for Ridgewater (4-2), which shot poorly (33 percent on 23 of 69).
