The Warriors (1-2) picked up their first win after a pair of low-scoring losses to start the season.

"Finally, after two tough losses we got one," said Ridgewater coach Rob Baumgarn. "I was happy to see us run the ball a lot better and we connected on some big passing plays."

Illies teamed up with Keante Johnson on a 30-yard scoring strike in the opening quarter, then connected with Johnson again for an 11-yard touchdown in the second quarter that gave the Warriors a 19-0 halftime lead.

Illies capped the scoring with a 20-yard touchdown strike to Elijah Lee in the final quarter.

The Warriors scored on a freakish play in the second quarter when Vermilion blocked a punt deep in Ridgewater territory. The ball rolled toward the sideline where Ridgewater's Josh Boyda picked it up and scampered untouched 90 yards for a score.

Reserve quarterback Colton Otto tossed a 16-yard touchdown to Marcus Thames in the third quarter for the Warriors' other score.

Davonaty Stevens rush-ed for 97 of the Warriors' 253 yards on the ground. Justin Howell added 55 yards in five carries.

Illies completed 7 of 17 throws for 93 yards with no interceptions. Ott was 3-for-7 for 42 yards with an interception.

Johnson and Lee each finished with three receptions.

"The offensive line played well with sold run blocking and pass protection," said Baumgarn. "And the running backs did a nice job of hitting the hole. And the defense did a good job again."
