WILLMAR — The city water tower next to Ridgewater College in Willmar has a new coat of paint.

And along with the new paint has come new lettering on the tower. It’s become a great big sign for college.

Workers finished this week in painting the Ridgewater logo on the east and west sides of the tower.

How did the cooperative venture come about?

“We asked; it’s that simple,” said college spokeswoman Liz VanDerBill.

College officials heard that Willmar Municipal Utilities would be painting the tower and thought it would be a good opportunity to raise the school’s visibility.

“People are always asking where Ridgewater is,” she said. “This is something they can see from a distance.”

The cost of painting the logo on both sides of the tower was about $8,000, VanDerBill said.
