Ridgewater routs Rochester, 46-7
WILLMAR -- One might think five pins and a major decision in a 46-7 shellacking of Rochester Community and Technical College Wednesday evening might be reason for some celebration.
But there was hardly a high-5. Ridgewater College coach Jesse Nelson seemed unmoved by the thrashing his team had just given the Yellowjackets.
"We definitely did some good things, but we're making early-season mistakes, freshman mistakes." He said. "We just have to continue to grow."
A dual-meet win in November may be about as significant as a Twins' win in spring training. Still, the defending NJCAA Division III national champs may have another powerhouse.
Sophomore Michal Barrie (Westbrook), sophomore Clay Hoeck (Milica), freshman Ben Talkington (Chaska), sophomore Chris Sogge (Paynesville) and freshman Abe Miller (Benson) each recorded a pin.
Jimmy Marx (Webster, S.D.) led off the night with a major at 125.
"That was a highlight," said Nelson. "It motivates everyone when you get a start like that."
Miller evened his record at 2-2, breaking open a virtual standoff with a sudden pin that started with a simple arm bar at 6:43.
Rochester is young with just one sophomore in the line-up. They forfeited two weights.
The Warriors wrestle at the Dragons Open in Moorhead Saturday.
