Ridgewater third at nationals with sweep
ROCHESTER -- Karie Blommel pounded down 15 kills as Ridgewater College swept Central Lakes 25-15, 25-20, 25-17 for third place in the NJCAA Division III volleyball tournament on Saturday.
Emily Roelike added nine kills, Macy McKay eight and Stephanie Tillman seven for Ridgewater, which finished the season 36-5.
This is the 10th national trip for Ridgewater, which has placed in the top three nine times. They won the national title in 2002 and 2006.
Ridgewater opened at nationals on Friday with a win over Butler County (Pa.) before being swept in the semifinals by Madison Area Tech. Brookhaven (Ill.) won the championship in four games over Madison Tech.
Ridgewaster served 93 percent with nine aces against Central Lakes. Darcie Listul and Brianna Jacobson had three ace serves apiece. Listul also chalked up 34 set assists. Roelike paced the Lady Warriors with nine digs. Blommel, Listul, McKay and Brandi Bodin had six digs apiece.
