WILLMAR -- Rochester came from behind at halftime to tame upset-minded Ridgewater 20-7 on Saturday at Hodapp Field.

The Warriors held a 7-0 lead at halftime on a 97-yard run by Patrick Cincinatus. But aided by four Warriors turnovers, the unbeaten Yellowjackets scored four times while blanking the hosts over the last 30 minutes.

The Warriors' defense limited the Yellowjackets to just 193 total yards. Quarterback Carey Poach was sacked five times while completing 8-of-22 passes for 102 yards.

"We knew this would be a big challenge, but we were really confident," said Ridgewater defensive end Craig Gartner, who had two first-half sacks. "We had an awesome game last week (a 7-6 win over Fond du Lac). We know we could stop people."

About the only threat the Warriors didn't corral was running back Bryan Schroeder, a 220-pound freshman out of Stewartville.

A hard tackle, he logged all 72 of his yards in the second half on 18 carries. After consecutive field goals by Mike Kusnierz made it 7-6, Schroeder ran 14 yards to put the visitors ahead for the first time 13-7. He then added fourth-quarter insurance with five-yard scamper.

Ridgewater quarterback Jackson Illies was picked off three times in the second half and the Warriors also lost a fumble on a handoff to give the Yellowjackets a short field the entire second half.

The Warriors were on their own three-yard line after a sack in the second quarter when Illies handed off to Cincinatus on a power dive over left guard. The freshman out of Apple Valley High School found a huge hole, was never touched and outran the Rochester secondary to the north end.

But even with that run Cincinatus didn't exceed 100 yards as the Rochester defense continued its stingy ways -- 34 points allowed in eight games.

Ridgewater (1-2, 3-5) is at Central Lakes Saturday to close out the season.

"It's disheartening to know we won't be in the playoffs but we'll still try to finish strong," said Gartner, a sophomore from BOLD.
