Ridgewater wrestlers have successful season-opening meet
ROCHESTER -- Ridgewater had two wrestlers place first, two finish second and three come in third at the season-opening Yellowjacket Open Saturday.
Sophomores Lonny Booshu at 125 pounds and Javior Portillo at 133 were each 3-0 en route to winning their divisions.
Reaching the final but falling just short to finish second for the Warriors were sophomore Mariano Portillo (2-1) at 141 and freshman Trevor Mahlum (2-1) at 174.
Bouncing back to finish third after falling in the semifinals for Ridgewater were freshmen Klinton VanHeuveln (4-1) at 141 and Shane Fesenmeier (3-1) at 149. Freshman Mike Downham (2-2) also placed third at 165.
"Illness, deer hunting and football kept some home," said Ridgewater coach Tom Beyer. "(We're) looking to have all hands on board by Nov. 14."
The Warriors didn't have any competitors in the bottom three weights.
Next Saturday Ridgewater will compete at the DWU Open in Mitchell, S.D.
