BENSON -- Robert Eugene "Bob" Lee Sr., 71, of Benson died Thursday at his home after suffering with cancer.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Benson. Burial will be in the Benson City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church and one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are by Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson.
Robert "General" Lee was born Jan. 4, 1937, in Benson to Irving Herbert and Alma Sophia (Simonson) Lee. He grew up on a farm in rural Benson and attended country school through the eighth grade. He graduated from Benson High School in 1955. He served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958.
He married Shirley Ann Sorenson on Sept. 1, 1962, in Watson. Other than the two years he spent in the Army, he lived his entire life in Benson. He worked on his own for a couple of years before he started working for Swanson Fertilizer, where he was employed for 32 years. Swanson Fertilizer was bought by Glacial Plains, where he continued to work for seven years until his retirement in 2003. He worked part-time for Motzko Contracting from 2003 up until his illness.
He was a member of the American Legion and of Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher and taught Sunday School.
He is survived by his wife; his children: Michael (and Connie) Lee, Julie (and Rick) Motzko, Teresa (and Mike) Molden and Rob (and Michelle) Lee, all of Benson; 10 grandchildren: and siblings: Carole (and Loren) Holmgren of Benson, Herb (and Bev) Lee of Benson, Alonah (and Donn) Lorenz of Benson and Barb (and Dave) Odden of Starbuck.
He was preceded in death by his infant son: Daniel Robert; and two brothers.
