Robert E. Stammer Jan. 13, 1922 - June 13, 2009
STARBUCK -- Robert Edwin Stammer, 87, of Starbuck, died Saturday at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Indherred Lutheran Church, rural Starbuck. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites provided by the Starbuck Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the Starbuck Funeral Home.
He was born Jan. 13, 1922, in Wisner, Neb., to John and Bessie (Sedlacek) Stammer. He graduated from Wisner High School in 1939 and attended the Commercial Extension School in Omaha, Neb. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946.
He married Dorothy Burke on Dec. 30, 1951. They lived on a farm near Lyons, Neb., until 1957, when they moved to a farm between Cyrus and Starbuck. In 1959, they moved to a farm north of Starbuck, where they continued to live and farm until 1969, when he retired from farming. They moved into Starbuck in 1970. He worked for a few years at Glenwood Manufacturing until he retired.
He was a member of Indherred Lutheran Church in Starbuck and the American Legion.
He is survived by two sons: John (and Kathy) Stammer of Starbuck and David Stammer of Starbuck; one daughter: Roberta (and Doug) Kuhnau of Farwell; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother: Richard Stammer of Tigrad, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his wife, a granddaughter and two brothers.
