Robert G. Moe Oct. 26, 1928 - Sept. 1, 2009
Robert G. Moe, 80, of Brooten died Tuesday at Glenwood Retirement Village in Glenwood.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at South Lake Johanna Lutheran Church in rural Brooten. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade and one hour prior to the service at the church.
He was born Oct. 26, 1928, on the family farm in Lake Johanna Township to Oscar and Tonie (Gunderson) Moe. He grew up on the farm and attended District 56 country school. He graduated from Brooten High School in 1946.
He married Nancy Lakie on Oct. 13, 1951, in Minneapolis. They lived in rural Brooten and farmed until 1956 when they moved to Barnesville and operated Bijou Theatre. They later owned and operated Moe School Bus Line until 1969. He then became an independent grant writer and helped get low-rent housing for seniors in Barnesville, Glenwood, Brooten and Belgrade. He also helped gain funding to build parks in Barnesville, Elbow Lake, Herman, Glenwood and Terrace. He returned to the Brooten area where he was the city administrator for Glenwood and managed the sewer project.
He served as a trustee and president of his church. He was a member of the Barnesville Lions Club, the Glacial Ridge Hospital Board and Lake Johanna Township Board.
He is survived by his wife; children: David (and Donna), John (and Lois) and Robert, all of Brooten and Fay Holthusen (and Ed Freitag) of New London; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and siblings: Norma Moe Olson of St. Paul and Earl (and Boots) Moe of Rapid City, S.D.
Bob was preceded in death three brothers and one sister.
