MORRIS -- Robert John "Bob" Guter, 88, of Morris died Wednesday at the Courage Cottage in Morris.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Morris.
Visitation will be prior to the service Tuesday at the church. Pedersen Funeral Home of Morris is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are preferred to Hospice and the Courage Cottage in Morris.
He was born Feb. 19, 1919, in Morris to Steven and Mary (Smith) Guter. He graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School in Morris. He attended two years at St. Thomas College. He served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1945 as a captain during World War II, stationed in the Aleutian Islands.
He married Helen Jeanne Cairney on Sept. 11, 1944, in Morris. They lived in Morris. He worked at Henry's Candy Company and later began an entry level job at the Morris Post Office, eventually served as postmaster.
He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Morris, and at a young age he served as an altar boy. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife; five daughters: Mary (and Dick) Verdier of Oriental, N.C., Sharon Stewart of Lafayette, Calif., Sue (and Dennis) Zahrbock of Cumberland, Wis., Sandy (and Curt) Larson of Hudson, Wis., and Barb (and Bill) Boyle of Klamath Falls, Ore.; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister: Lorraine D'Ambrose; and one brother: Jim Guter of Merrimac, N.H.
He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
