Robert James 'Jim' Gillespie Feb. 11, 1940 - July 19, 2009
CHANHASSEN -- Robert James "Jim" Gillespie, 69, of Chanhassen, formerly of Litchfield, died Sunday at his home.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Excelsior. Burial will be at Fort Snelling at a later date.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are by Huber Funeral Home in Excelsior.
He was born Feb. 11, 1940, in Beatrice, Neb., to Robert and Rita (Baumann) Gillespie. He grew up in the St. Cloud and Minneapolis areas. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army. He worked in the interior design business until he retired.
On Jan. 20, 1961, he married Carol Bennett and they lived in Minneapolis, Litchfield and Chanhassen.
He is survived by his wife; mother of Princeton; children: Dean Gillespie of Shakopee, Jeff (and Stacy) Gillespie of Willmar, Lynnette (and Mark) McHugh of Minneapolis, Laura (and Glenn) Smith of Brooklyn Park and Julie Gillespie of St. Louis Park; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; siblings: Bill (and Karen) Gillespie of New Richmond, Wis., Joe (and Juanita) Gillespie of Lakeville, Tom Gillespie of Minneapolis, Bev (and Ken) Johnston of Apache Junction, Ariz., Christine (and Mike) Scholl of St. Paul and Rose (and Kurt) Moe of Princeton.
He was preceded in death by his father and two grandchildren.
