GLENWOOD -- Robert Luverne Ellestad, 91, died Friday at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria. Funeral
The service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Glenwood Lutheran Church in Glenwood. Internment will be in Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
He was born April 3, 1916, in Mabel, Minn., to George and Alice (Housker) Ellestad. He grew up and attended school in Mabel until 1930 when his family moved to Preston. He then attended school in Preston and graduated from the Preston High School in 1935. After high school he worked with his dad at the local power company in Preston until he was called to active duty in the U.S. Navy in 1942. Bob served in World War II and was discharged in 1945.
He married Alice McVay on May 28, 1947 in Mabel where they lived for several years. Then they moved to Winona and then Rochester. In 1961, they moved to Cresco and Vinton, Iowa, before moving to Glenwood in 1968.
He worked for the Minnesota State Highway Department from 1946 to 1960. He was a county highway engineer in Iowa for eight years. He became the Pope County highway engineer in 1968. He worked for Pope County until he retired in 1980.
He was a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church, a member of the Glenwood Lions Club, the Sons of Norway and the American Legion.
He is survived by his brother, Dean (and Margaret) Ellestad of Roseville, Calif; nieces and nephews, Roger, John, James, Barbara, and Linda.
He was preceded in death by his wife and two sisters.
