Robert Mallon Jan. 31, 1925 - Jan. 14, 2009
NEW LONDON -- Robert Currie Mallon, 83, of New London, died Jan. 14 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church in New London. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home in New London.
He was born Jan. 31, 1925, in Minneapolis to George and Effie Mallon. He grew up in Minneapolis where he attended school. He entered the Merchant Marines where he served until enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1943. He served during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945 and returned to Minnesota. He later moved to Los Angeles where he worked as a truck driver for 40 years.
He married Loraine Tompkins on March 19, 1977, and they lived in Los Angeles until retiring to New London in 1989.
He is survived by his wife; three sons from a prior marriage: Roddy (and Marvelle) Rolfe of Alexandria, Clark (and Paula) Rolfe of Ft. Myers, Fla. and Robert B. Mallon of Port Richey, Fla; stepchildren: Kathleen Cloakey of New London and Chris (and Kathy) Canton of Coon Rapids; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his son: Bruce Rolfe; stepson: Steven; and one brother.
