Roger D. Johnson April 23, 1934 - Sept. 25, 2008
RENVILLE -- Roger Dale Johnson, 74, of Renville, died Thursday at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church in Renville. Burial will be in Fair-view Cemetery, Ren-ville.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Dirks-Blem Fu-neral Home in Renville and continue one hour prior to the service at church.
He was born April 23, 1934, in Crooks Township, Renville County, to Carl and Mabel (Austin) Johnson. In his early childhood, he moved to Sacred Heart Township where his family lived on the John Ogreen farm. He attended District 15 North Country School for several years and later attended Renville Public Schools. In 1942, he and his family moved to a farm in Crooks Township.
He farmed with his father and worked as a hired hand for other local farmers. He also helped build the Sacred Heart school. He worked for the A.S.C. office and the Renville Co-op Elevator. In 1954, he began driving livestock trucks for area truckers as well as continuing his farming. He also worked for Duinnicks and Rafters for a short time. He retired from trucking in 1969 and continued to farm until retiring in 1989 due to health problems.
He married Julie Thiel in 1978 and divorced in 1981. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Renville, a former member of the Olivia Area Single and Solos Club and a longtime member of the Farmer's Union.
He moved into Renville in 2003, and for the last year and a half has been living at the RenVilla Nursing Home.
He is survived by special friends Larry and Barb Novotny and family, Jody Toren and Dana Boen.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
