HAWICK - Ronald G. Thorson age 82, of Hawick, died on Monday, September 23, 2013, at the St. Cloud Hospital. His Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, September 27, 2013, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. Interment will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4-8:00 pm on Thursday, at St. Louis Catholic Church and continue one hour prior to the Mass on Friday. In Lieu of flowers memorials are preferred. Services are entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville. www.hafh.org
Ronald Gordon Thorson was born on March 24, 1931, in Paynesville, Minnesota, the son of Arnold and Anna (Thorpe) Thorson. He grew up on the family farm in the Roseville Township near Hawick. Ronald attended a small country school close to his home for his primary education and graduated from Paynesville High School in 1948. On March 11, 1954, Ronald enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany and South Korea. On March 10, 1956, Ronald was honorably discharged from the Army. He returned to the Roseville Township where he began farming and worked for the state hospital in Willmar.
On October 19, 1957, Ronald was united in marriage to Doreen Weisman at the Church of St. Annes in Kimball. This union was blessed with a son and two daughters. The family made their home in the Roseville Township. Ronald continued to farm full time until 2003 when he sold his farm to his grandson. He then helped out on the farm until his death. Ronald won many awards for his farming including Outstanding Farmer of the Year.
Ronald was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. He was active there in the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the New London American Legion Post #537, and he served as Roseville Township Clerk for 16 years, as well as serving on many other boards through out the years. Ronald enjoyed the outdoors, deer hunting, bird watching, and woodworking. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. The great grandchildren will never forget the rides through the "Jungle" on the Kubota.
Ronald G. Thorson died on Monday, September 23, 2013, at the St. Cloud Hospital, he was 82. Ronald is survived by his wife of 55 years, Doreen; children, Bryan (Suzanne) of Hawick, Debbie (Victor) Keller of Hawick, and Kathy (Ron) Welle of Spring Hill; 13 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Elroy (Mary) Thorson of Blaine, and Barb (Dave) Hoeft of Paynesville; and many nieces and nephews.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jerome, Gerald, Vernon, and Lloyd; and sister, Marion.
