Rosalie Nelson June 24, 1930 - Nov. 17, 2009
BIRD ISLAND -- Rosalie Nelson, 79, of Bird Island died Tuesday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
The service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Bird Island. Burial will be in the Bird Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Bird Island and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was born June 24, 1930, in Porter to Robert and Mary Mead. She grew up near Porter and assisted her parents on the farm.
She married Maurice Nelson on June 10, 1949, in Canby. They lived in California for a short time and then moved to Bird Island. She worked at Fingerhut Corp. for many years. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and the Bird Island chapter of the Red Hat Society.
She is survived by four children: Clyde Nelson of Bird Island, Steve Nelson of Philadelphia, Barbara Nelson of Carbondale, Ill., and Karen (and Michael) Geurtz of Bird Island; daughter-in-law: Peggy Nelson of Buffalo Lake; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings: Marilyn Zitlow of Wichita, Kan., Donald (and Gladys) Mead of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Dennis Mead of Ruthton.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son: Gregg; and five brothers.
