Roy A. Nelson May 21, 1934 - Aug. 13, 2009
NEW LONDON -- Roy Alfred Nelson, 75, of New London died Thursday at his home following an extended illness.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hope Presbyterian Church in Spicer. A private burial will be held at a later date at Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery in Willmar.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Hope Presbyterian Church and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Sunday. Arrangements are with the Green Lake Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Spicer.
He was born May 21, 1934, in Dovre Township, Kandiyohi County, to Henry and Pearl (Mead) Nelson. He grew up in Willmar and graduated from Willmar High School in 1954.
On April 23, 1955, he married Yvonne Ann Peterson. From 1955 to 1957, he attended Waldorf Junior College in Iowa. Following college, they made their home in the Willmar area. He was employed for more than 40 years by the Minnesota Department of Transportation in the soil department. In 1985, they moved to Green Lake. In 2005, he was inducted to the Willmar High School Athletic Hall of Fame for his participation in three sports. He was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife; two sons: Barry Nelson and Brian (and Lisa) Nelson, all of Spicer; two grandchildren; siblings: Lawrence "Bud" Nelson of Niles, Mich., and Alice Madsen of Clontarf.
He was preceded in death by his son: Kent Nelson in 1979.
