Roy A. Ouren, 70, of Willmar died Monday, April 28, 2014, at his home in Willmar. His funeral will be 10:30 am, Thursday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar, with interment in Fairview Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the American Legion. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm, Wednesday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home and on Thursday one hour prior to the service.

Roy was born on July 21, 1943, in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, the son of Henry and Selma (Johnson) Ouren. He grew up in the Erhard area with various relatives until he was in senior high school when he lived with his brother and sister-in-law, James and Sheila Ouren. Roy graduated from Pelican Rapids High School. On January 24, 1962, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving until his honorable discharge on January 18, 1965.

On July 31, 1965, he was united in marriage to Karen Johnson at Federated Church in Fergus Falls. Following their marriage and while he worked for Jennie-O Turkey Store, they lived in Erhard, Rothsay, Fergus Falls, Wadena and Underwood prior to moving to Willmar in 1990. Roy retired after 41 years in 2006.

He was an active member of several organizations including, Elks, Eagles, VFW and American Legion, where he had served as commander.

Surviving are his wife, Karen; children, Scott (and Bridgett) Ouren, Kelly Adolphson and Kari (and Steven) Sunder all of Willmar; eight grandchildren, Kaleigh, Alexis, Jayden, Hailey, Mackenzie, Mallory, Noah and Dalton. Also surviving are his siblings, Clifford Ouren of Battle Lake; Leroy (and Marilyn) Ouren and James (and Sheila) Ouren both of Erhard; and Sylvia (Orin) Koziol of Nashua; sisters-in-law, Pat Ouren of Erhard; and Donna (Edward) OMeara of Eurkea, CA and brothers-in-law, Adrian Westergard of rural Erhard, and Jeffrey Johnson of Fergus Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Lester and Harold (Carol) Ouren, and sisters, Joyce (George) Thiel and Sharon Westergard; father and mother-in-law Arly and Beryl Johnson; sisters-in-law, Gail Freitag and Nancy (Wayne) Bakke.
