Royce Ruud Sept. 13, 1917 - Jan. 8, 2013

WILLMAR - Royce Ruud, 95 of Willmar died January 8th, 2013 at Rice Care Center in Willmar. A Memorial Service will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar at 4:00 pm on Sunday, September 15th, 2013 with visitation one hour prior to the Service.

Royce Glendolyn Ruud was born September 13th, 1917 in East Lake Lillian Township, MN to Oscar and Hannah Emelia ((Millie) Gunderson). He was baptized in Eagle Bend, MN and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Lake Lillian in 1931. He attended District 81 South, Kandiyohi County (Country School) then high school in Bird Island, MN graduating in 1936.

On March 5th, 1950 he was united in marriage to Norma Alma Hoyer in Minneapolis, MN. Royce continued Farming in Lake Lillian and Willmar area until 1986. In 1964 Royce & Norma moved to Willmar when they purchased a long term health care facility (which later became known as Willmar Nursing Home) where he was Assistant Administrator, having acquired his Long Term Care Administration Certification from the University of Minnesota in 1972. He continued his farming operations while also working in the operation of the nursing home and homes for the mentally disabled.

Royce was very active in Professional and Civic organizations. MN Farmers Union, Lake Lillian Farmers Elevator, Township (assessor), MN Association of Health Care Facilities (MAHCF Legislative committee for 5 yrs), SW Health Planning Council, ARRM, Southern MN Developmental Disabilities Council, ARC, Willmar Area Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis. He was active in First Lutheran Church of Lake Lillian from 1925 - 1964 and then Bethel Lutheran Church from 1964 - 2013. In all of these organizations he served in many capacities: as a member, officer, serving on the boards, and various committees with in these organizations. His hobbies were watching the Twins play on TV and Politics. He also enjoyed visiting with folks and talking about the "Good old Days" or just telling stories and of course talking politics.

He is survived by his son Randall Ruud, Lake Stevens, WA; daughter Betty (Gary) Hedrick, Mercer Island, WA; daughter Becky (Darvin) Hauptli, Willmar, MN; Grandchildren: Alisha Ruud, Bloomington, MN; Hannah Hedrick, Seattle, WA; Benjamin Hedrick, Mercer Island WA; Erin (Ryan) Tollefsrud, Sunburg, MN; Derek (Kristin) Hauptli, Willmar, MN and Two Great Grandchildren: Connor and Alexis Hauptli. He is also survived by sister in law Ann Rispoli, Tempe, AZ; and her 4 children and families and sister in law Margaret Ruud and his two nephews: Leroy (Kathy) Ruud and Larry (Stephani) Ruud , and other family members and friends.

Preceding Royce in death is his wife Norma (2009), Son, Jerry (2009) His brother Donald (Pat) Ruud and sister Geneva Ruud.

Royce's Family wants to say a Heart-Felt Thank you for his wonderful care by the staff at Rice Care Center, Rice Hospital and Rice Hospice and Family and Friends who visited him.
