Ruby M. Thorson, 80 of New London died Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. Funeral services will be 10:30 Saturday, August 2, 2014 at First Lutheran Church on Norway Lake near New London. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2014 at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. In Lieu of Flowers, memorials are preferred. www.hafh.org

Ruby Merlaine Thorson was born on June 12, 1934, on the family farm in Lake Andrew Township, the daughter of Otis and Amy (Hjelle) Thorson. She attended country grade school in districts # 16 and 108 and graduated from New London High School in 1952. After the death of her mother she chose to make her home on the farm to help her father. She also worked as a custodian for 32 years at church, retiring on December 31, 2013.

Ruby was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake where she was baptized, confirmed, sang in the choir, participated in bible study and served in circle. She is remembered for her love of children, animals, music and service to her family and church. She was loved for her spunky spirit, selflessness and caring nature.

She is survived by her sister, Muriel Bengtson; nieces and nephews, Marcia Nordwall, Lynette (Dave) Cors, Ron (Darlene) Thorson and Lyle (Charlene) Bengtson; great-nieces and nephews, Kelsey, Shauna, Chad, Jesse, Danny, Jason, Jacob, Andrew, Dennis, Jesse, Ariel, and Justin; and numerous great-great-nieces and nephews.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Alvord; and nephews, Lance Bengtson and Larry Thorson.
