Runnings acquires DJ's Sporting Goods in Monte

MONTEVIDEO -- Runnings Farm & Fleet announces it has signed an agreement to acquire DJ's Sporting Goods, a popular outfitter for hunting, fishing and archery in Montevideo. The retailer will continue to operate under the DJ's Sporting Goods brand, but will move into the Runnings store located at 2202 State Highway 7 in Montevideo.

According to a news release, the details are expected to be finalized in the next few weeks and DJ's Sporting Goods will officially open at the new location sometime in February.

"Sporting goods is a category we're working very hard to expand across our business,'' said Brian Odegaard, part owner of Runnings. "We're excited about the acquisition because it supports our growth goals, and is an opportunity for us to keep a vibrant business in the community."

DJ's opened as an auto parts and sporting goods store in 1974. In 2000, owners Jim and Jon Dahlvang sold the auto parts division and devoted their energy to selling top-quality hunting and fishing products.

"We're extremely excited to be part of Runnings because it allows our business to join a company that is very similar to ours in being family-owned, and committed to quality products and great customer service,'' they said.

DJ's has five employees; all will continue to work in the new store, including Jon who will manage the sporting goods department.

Runnings Farm & Fleet started in 1947. The family-owned company has headquarters in Marshall and has 31 retail stores throughout Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota and Montana.

DJ's Sporting Goods has been a top sporting goods store in southwest and west central Minnesota since 1974. The store sells a large variety of hunting, fishing and archery equipment, supplies, and accessories including guns and ammunition.
